Includes liner notes by Franck Jacques. Recorded in Kingston between 1969 and 1972 by Bunny Lee and the great Lee Perry, MR. CHATTERBOX goes a long way toward righting one of the great wrongs done to Bob Marley's early career by compilation producers. Tracks 1-10 collect ten of Marley's classic Jamaican singles, including such greats as "My Cup," "Hypocrites," "Thank You Lord" (Marley's earliest devotional song) and one of Marley's all-time greatest, "Nice Time." Tracks 11-20 are the dub versions of these same ten singles. Most often found on the B-sides of singles, dub versions were echoey, effects-filled instrumentals, sometimes with bits of vocals dropping in and out of the mix. Given that most of these songs were produced by Lee Perry, dub's foremost practitioner (some say inventor), the fact that so few Marley dub tracks have been collected is bizarre, particularly when one hears how endlessly fascinating the versions are. This compilation is essential.
