Description:
After the breakup of the world-renowned Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, Liam Clancy and Tommy Makem decided to front their own band. The two had already established a splendid musical symbiosis in their days with the other three Clancys, which their subsequent work maintained.
This collection of recorded material from the 1970s features a varied program of both traditional and original compositions. Both Clancy and Makem have written tunes that have since become favorites on the Irish folk circuit. Among these are Makem's "Red Is the Rose" and "Rambles of Spring." Traditional songs covered here include "The Cobbler" and the chilling war tune, "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda." "Never knew there were worse things than dyin'," Makem sings of a soldier's losing his legs in battle, in one of the best versions of this moving song.
